It probably depends on what type of custody you have. I was granted sole custody, and the papers specifically gave me the right to choose education, medical, etc. I can do what I want without my ex's "permission." However, I was homeschooling before he ever left us, and he still sees homeschooling as a good thing, so this hasn't been an issue with us.
