Ang,
I'm just so mad that I was led to believe that there was no possibility of pressure for visitation or of receiving child support, and all along he knew he was getting out of prison soon!
I looked back at my papers. I have sole custody of the kids. Can that be contested now? As for child support, I told the judge I didn't need it (since he was in prison making nothing - duh), and the papers say the determination of child support is held in obeyance until such time as the guy is released from the custody of the state - which was supposed to happen after the kids reached their 30's, not now! I guess I'll contact someone about that next week. He sure didn't offer me anything today.
I was able to deny him visitation while he was in jail (he sent a request through his brother and didn't argue with my decision), but our divorce papers don't address visitation -- again, it wasn't an issue as far as I knew! All it says is "Admits that the Plaintiff voluntarily and without coercion agrees to relinquish all rights to decide matters related to the care, education and instruction of the parties' minor children." Could he contest that too? I thought I was safe!
His mother is helping him out, apparently with a car and wads of cash. So I suppose if he wanted his rights back, he could take me to court. I found out today that he doesn't expect to be retried because ALL the evidence, including his confession, has to be suppressed due to a clerical error and a mouthy judge! So it seems to me that he's off scot free! Which means I won't even have his record to point to if there's a fight!
I used to be so grateful to God for allowing me to avoid all this drama, and now I'm right in the middle of it with no hope for relief. I feel squashed.
