Gary, It goes without saying that single parenting isn't anyone's dream job.: ) I am a single mom of 5, 2 graduated, 1 rising senior, 1 sophomore and a 5th grader. I've been hs'ing 14 years. It is so worth it, but it doesn't get any easier, at least the teens. My number one (and most effective) strategy is prayer, lots of it. Helps me gain perspective. Secondly is to find supportive homeschool friends to keep you motivated and provide motivation for your son. Do you have other kids? What is his and your social life like? That can greatly influence motivation, and at his age social life is extremely important(to him.) Thirdly, make out a daily/weekly schedule for your son to follow that includes meal prep as a school subject. He can do the research on quick, simple nutritious meals (depends on your tastes) and plan them and shop for them himself. It's a survival skill every high school graduate should have. Motivation--well, that depends on his life goals and dreams. Where does he see himself in 10 years and how does he want to prepare for it? Just some starter questions, hope that helps a little. God bless your efforts. Laurie
