I also work primarily during the day but I have a large family When it works there is good synergy in that the older ones help the younger and get a review session by checking thier work(When it doesn't of course--chaos).After many years trial and error our system works with a clip board and check list for each person that contains academics and chores.The core subjects are first-math,reading etc with assignments spelled out.Each child is responsible to check off after an older sibling has checked his/her work.I can then do either a short check or a longer one(actually go through the work) depending on the day and who needs help.The fun subjects are for the afternoon or evening.I supplement with audio/DVD's etc so that they always have something to do.Still pretty labor intensive in planning but getting better--your system will take a while to evolve unless you're more skilled than I
