Dad, good for you for being so concerned and committed to your kids!since you work from home, HS is doable for you. That said, let me ask one thing: do you know at this point whether school was hard for you due to a lerning difference, like ADHD or dyslexia? Were you ever tested for these things? They do tend to run in families and are often passed from father to son (I work with learning-disabled kids, and there are things in your story that seem to fit this possibility). Before simply taking your boys home, which may or may not leave you trying to teach kids who have a neurologically-based need for special teaching, I'd strongly suggest having your older boy evaluated by a child psychologist specializing in learning issues. If it's just a matter of slightly slow neurological development (common in boys) testing will show that; if there is a need for a different teaching technique, you'll know what it is. and if there is an attentional issue present, the answer does nto have to be just medication; there are ways of training the brain for attention, that the psychologist can teach to to teach the children. it's worth doing so you'll at least know what you're taking on.
