Hi Beth:
I discovered this website today, and randomly picked a subject to open. I openeded yours. Your story was very similar to mine.
After 17 years of marriage, my former spouse announced he wanted to be "free", my child was 9 at the time. He bought a motorcycle, filed for divorce, started hanging around the wrong kind of people. I continued homeschooling, going to church, trying to keep life as normal as possible.
In the divorce, it was "ordered: that he pay the house payment, the car payment, alimony & child support. He paid none..I had to garnish the child support, and tried to garnish the alimony, but did not recieve the whole amount I was entitled..
Then one day, a man knocked on my front door, and told me the house was in forclosure, and I had ten days to get pack up 20 years of a life..We had no where to go, so my father who lived one hour away, took us in, and our 4 cats and 2 dogs..After all of that, I was hunted down, and told to turn in the automobile..the van, that he was supposed to be making payments house, no car..just trying to keep my child above water, emotionally, we missed our church home, where she grew up with tons of activities, her friends, etc.
Then about almost a year later, we were told my former spouse was killed on the motorcycle..
Everyone else, went on with their lives, & we have tried, but there are alot of days, we take several steps child is now 14. I'm almost 50, and have not worked for money since the birth of my child, when I was 35..per the agreement with my then husband. He was a public school teacher, and did not want our child in public school. Like your story, the only thing that stayed the same in my child's life, has been her education..
I've tried, and will continue to believe that God does have a better plan for us..but, it's been a long road. We have no friends where we are..Only my father, who at this point, lives his own life.
As all this was happening to us, my "mother" decided to divorce my father, after 54 years, my brother passed of colan cancer, my grandfather passed, our family cat much..and we're still standing..I feel that God took us out of a dangerous situation, because if we had been in the town where my former spouse was killed, I don't think either my child or myself would of been able to cope..apperently after the accident, he wasn't found until after 9 days..
We just keep going day by day..
Your story touched me, and I just thought I would share mine..
