We finally did it. Savannah had her graduation ceremony today. She was officially finished with school in February, but wanted to walk with the other kids in her cap and gown.
There were six kids in the ceremony and we let them each have their own "mini-ceremony". We gave each graduate a time slot in which to receive their diploma from their parents, say a few words to the families, and showcase a talent they had. One played guitar and one played violin. Several had grandparents or parents speak, and some had written poetry for their parents.
Each graduate had a table they could decorate with pictures, medals, trophies, or whatever they wanted to showcase. Savannah had a slide show going on her laptop that had pictures from every year since she was a baby up until now. We were able to display pictures from important things she's done as well as her awards and achievements.
All the parents pitched in to help. Our home school support league gives a small amount of money for each graduate and we used that money to buy the refreshments and the decorations. When we went to pick up the cake this morning, the bakery had done it WRONG so they fixed the cake, then gave it to us for FREE.
Overall it was a great day, and we feel like each graduate was made to feel special on their own special day.
So if you have little ones, don't give up! You can do this! I have four and we have had our share of struggles along the way. God has blessed us in more ways than I can express.
