I have an 8th grader, so I can relate to the whole boredom issue. Something we found just this year that is really wonderful is 3DLearn (www.3dlearn.com). It is a distance ed program for middle and high schoolers that let's you take homeschool courses by the course or by the year. My son LOVES this program and hasn't had a boring moment since joining. I think we have found what we will stick with. You might just want to check it out.
