i am also in the process of home schooling, feeling out what i can accomplish. i had three teenagers that i had pulled out of school a couple of years back and the curriculum i used was *ace home school curriculum. it's christian based, and you don't have to be enrolled to buy subject material. but i've worried about teaching from scratch. i have bought *hooked on phonics which has helped my child to learn her letters and sounds, and i also found *looney tunes phonics online that worked immediately toward helping my child to learn how to read, it's actually quite amazing for a child who gets bored easily. i am starting with my 4 year old early so that i can see just exactly how hard this is going to be and if i can keep up. i plan to use *encore advantage software (the science and history is secular so i won't use that part) which i have used in the past with flying colors, my daughter was a failure in math and caught up to her class level in only one summer, along with the ace curriculum once i finish with the hooked on phonics and looney tunes reading program (they have 100!! lessons online and it only costs 10.00 a month and my child has learned 4 sounds in 3 days, something i was unable to do so quickly on my own).hope this gives you a few ideas because it took me forever to settle with something since i don't have alot of time to teach or put lesson plans together. i also recommend to a child that is just learning the letters, colors, shapes *abcmouse. i had a subscription to this before i began the looney tunes phonics and it is also about 10.00 (7.95?)for a full month. hope this helps!!! god bless and remember that they get alot less secular and more love from home school. they are also much more well behaved as i can say watching the transformation with my teenagers in only 3 or 4 months from being pulled from secular schooling. it's worth it.
