I've had two "slow" readers. Basically I finally
backed off, took the pressure off them to read. I
made comic books available, Garfield books, joke
books stuff like that and didn't worry about them
reading "deep" books. Once reading clicked, it
clicked and now both of them who were many, many
years and grade levels behind are completely caught
up and one of them is now a voracious reader.

Anything counts as reading, magazines, newspaper,
back of the cereal box... all are reading, just not
what we typically think of as reading.
