Our family is currently enrolled in the ATI program and first enrolled 2 years ago. But I have a number of friends and family that have been in ATI for many years.
The basic curriculum for ATI is the Wisdom Booklets. There are 50+ Wisdom Books and, if you are faithful at it, you can go through about 8 a year. (That's 1 per month with a few breaks in between books.) Each Wisdom Book has a memory verse, character quality and theme song. I believe there are 7 categories in each book: Greek, linguistics, history, science, math, law and medicine. The focus is on Scripture and character qualities.
There is also a separate language arts program that goes with the WBs (WBLA) that is sold separately and is quite inexpensive. The creator of WBLA has recently developed it for non-ATI homeschoolers. I believe it is called Character Quality Language Arts or something similar. I think she was recently featured in The Old Schoolhouse Magazine.
I think ATI/IBLP would say that the WBs are all you need for homeschooling, but most people do use other more traditional curriculum to supplement. I think it depends a lot on what your state requirements are.
ATI would probably be considered not only a curriculum but more of a lifestyle. It is very conservative and follows the principles set forth in the IBLP Basic and Advanced Seminars. You must apply and be accepted into the program and the whole family must be on board, especially your husband. They do allow single parents, but you still must apply and be accepted.
ATI holds a yearly regional conference in several locations around the US and provides seminars and many other opportunities for parents and students throughout the year. The are more programs than I can count. The focus of ATI is not academics but raising up children to be mighty in spirit and to go on to serve the Lord through whatever they pursue in adulthood.
As far as I can tell, ATI has many detractors. I think most have problems with Mr. Bill Gothard, its founder. They disagree with some of his teachings and/or find him to be too conservative. The same criticisms are leveled against ATI families.
