Hello, My 4th kiddo (dd age 7 now -- will be 8 next Oct) has me stumped on how to help her with math. The previous three (all boys)just seemed to get it. We always started out with rods then I put them in Miquon which they raced through then they jumped into Saxon - no problems. I have spent the year doing rods with my dd and also working thru Developmental Math. She simply isn't getting it. She doesn't like to use the rods anymore, so she is very dependent on her fingers or a number line. My biggest concern is that I often have to show her which way to go on the numberline or how to add/subtract with her fingers. Once she gets the pattern of that particular kind of problem she can solve them all, but if they change the kind of problem she goes blank. I've gotten suggestions for MUS and R&S. At first I was ready to dive into MUS, now I'm wondering if I really want more manipulatives since she doesn't like them and it hasn't seemed to help her understanding anyway. Should I just go with something like R&S and work strictly with memorization and trust that her understanding will come with maturity? Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks kristina
