I was looking down the board and saw that you said yes, you do want to know
how I do it at my house. Sorry I missed that.

OK, here is how it works here:

The first thing I do is look at what I have at home in the freezers, refrigerator,
in the cabinets, and on the pantry shelves. I try to make meals using those
things so as to use what I have and not just fill up the house with more food.

On payday, I look over the sale ads and make out my grocery list around what
I have and what is on sale, keeping in mind what recipes I have. I use my
cookbooks as I go so I can use up those odds and ends by adding to them. I
also shop at Aldi and Sam's Club, so I keep those in mind, too.

I write out a menu for a week at a time because things happen and
sometimes the menu has to change according to what life throws at me.

I look at my calendar as I make out the menu, too, so I can make sure to have
crock pot meals when it would be most helpful, and quick things on nights ds
needs to be at fencing practice early, etc.

I make more than is needed for each meal so we have enough leftovers for
lunch the next day and enough for dh to take for his lunch. This makes our
school day go much more smoothly.

As I make out the menu, I try to spread out things so we are not having
chicken everyday or beans more than every other day. Variety is important in
keeping us from getting tired of favorite meals.

Does this help? I hope it is not overwhelming. Just give yourself time to plan
and to get used to planning.

I also want to add that my menu is flexible so if something happens, well, we
change the menu. No biggie.

Do let me know if you have any questions at all.
I love to help.

Mary
