My son finished this book and I need to get it put away, hence it is out on the counter to remind me. From "Short Lessons in Art History"

Leonardo spent most of the year of 1502 away from Florence working as a military engineer for the notorious Cesare Borgia. Borgia served Pope Alexander in many capacities, from diplomat to leader of military assaults on small city-states and countries for the Vatican. Corruption was wide-spread in both government and the Church; the Borgia family is said to have participated in much of it. Cesare Borgia became ill and floundered politically, and Leonardo came back to Florence. It was at this time that he painted his best-known work.
(the Mona Lisa)

Off to a walk, it is beautiful out here.
