My 5.5 year old has been able to recognize and sound out all the letters of the alphabet for a year. However, he then cannot seem to put them together. For example, he will read and sound out "c" then "a" then "t" separately, swiftly, and perfectly pronounced. When I then put them together and run my hand under the letters, he will literally read "meet"! NONE of the letters he just read are in the word he reads aloud. It has been going on for a while and I wondered if it was developmental, or if I need to do more than just keep on with it. He is so frustrated and says "I don't know the word" but as I said, NEVER misses a letter when it is alone. Is this something to worry about??? Thanks so much! Please email me privately as I don't get to this board very often. mdc@bibleseven.org
