I'm posting for a friend of mine. Her daughter is having great difficulty recognizing her letters. She simply cannot remember them. Now this little girl has had trouble with remembering names for things, like scissors, etc., and seems to have great trouble connecting objects with their names. Now at 10 we are all hoping that she will be able to read, as she wants to and other kids will start to notice that she can't. So my friend needs help. Her daughter is bright and beautiful and they unschool. Her mom has tried every tactile thing she can think of, singing, playing, games, puzzles, cards, memorizing, etc., to no avail. Seems the daughter can only remember if it's like her name and is very personal to her. She couldn't draw like "normal" children when she was younger and even now her drawings look very young for her age, but she has progressed to drawing recognizable things. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
