Subject:         Learn to Pronounce --Amish Adult?
Date: May 19, 2014 at 2:39 pm PST

A former Amish adult has asked me (a retired homeschool mom)
for advice on how he could speak English with less of an
accent. His reading comprehension tests high (in GED
classes), but he does not know how to pronounce a written
word--especially the short vowel sounds. One of the words
he struggles with (don't we all) is "aluminum", and it's
pronouncing the short i that gives him the most trouble. I
used Reading Reflex in the old days; would that be a good
thing for him, or is there something more detailed that
would be better? He would gladly teach himself, but I'm not
sure what to recommend.
