I can't comment on the curriculum since we never used it. One thing I will strongly suggest is for your son to get those facts down well. He needs to be able to whip those out quickly. The faster he can do that, the faster he will do any future algebra. Algebra is knowing how to rebalance math sentences-which involves a lot of +-x and /on each side of the equation until solved.

Triangle flash cards will let him do multiplication and division and see the math "family". Even though he will be doing the simple division up to 144/12, it will help him in his long division.

A quick run through before doing his lesson will give his brain a boost. Keep track of how long it takes him to go through the cards to show him how he is increasing in his speed doing this.
