you don't need Reading Works. The Spalding Method is not that difficult. You just have to tweak your brain a little, lol. Everything you need to know is in WRTR.

You can use the 4th edition if you have the Morrison McCall Spelling Test (for assessments). But you know, there are now teacher guides available for the fifth edition, which are *wonderful.*

Here are the basic steps:

1. Teach the first 45 (5th edition) or 54 (4th edition) phonograms, 4 a day. There's a script for teaching the first 26; you follow that methodology for the rest.

2. Each day drill the phonograms already taught, by "flashing" the phonogram cards and by dictating them.

3. When your dc knows those phonograms, start teaching the words in the Extended Ayres List. There's a script for the first few; follow the same method for the rest.

That's really all there is to it.
