4. KOKO'S KITTEN - grades 1-4 by Dr. Francine Patterson - Scholastic Publishers - Reading Rainbow Book - Copyright 1985 - 32 pages. This paperback book shows some mild wear. "The cover photo alone is all that is needed to 'sell' this book. The smallest, most delicate of kitten profiles in the massively careful embrace of a glistening gorilla, whose bare-knuckled fist is four times the size of the diminutive feline's head, and whose face radiates tenderness. Koko is one of a number of great apes in various experimental communication programs and is remarkably conversant in American Sign Language. With her linguistic skill, she asked for, and finally received, the small, tailless tabby kitten she promptly named All Ball. This brief, moving book records Koko's relationship with her pet. All Ball was groomed, played with, cuddled and loved, and never once showed fear of her large foster-mother, outlandish though she might seem to feline eyes. The growing relationship was cut horribly short by All Ball being killed by a car, and Koko's grief is dramatically recorded on film. Fortunately, Koko was given the opportunity to have another kitten, and chose a second tailless Manx. In a happy new beginning, she is shown cuddling 'Lipstick.' In beautiful color photos, and a brief accompanying text, Patterson lets readers see beneath the glossy fur, the heavy brows and the animal shape to the gentle mind that wanted something to love and be loved by." The original price was $4.95. *****NOW $1.00*****

7. OUR BODIES: A CHILD'S FIRST LIBRARY OF LEARNING - grades K-3 by Time Life Books - Copyright 1993 - 87 pages. This oversized hardback book is in new, has never been opened, but has very slightly dinged bottom outer corners of the cover. It's so minor you have to look for it. "In this book, the focus is on the human body. As always, the format is posing of a question and then providing an answer. One of the questions is, "Why do old men lose their hair." For younger children who might want to know what happens with age, in terms of hair, this section does a nice job. "Why do we have two ears"? The text notes that this separation allows people to guess what direction sound is coming from. There is a similar question about separation of two eyes. "Why do we get cavities?" This actually provides a nice teaching moment for parents with their kids, giving a nice lever to speak about the value of a good diet. On eating, "Why do foods taste different," is asked. "Why do we shiver when we get cold"? There is a nice sidebar for parents here, and the text makes the answer to kids pretty accessible. This book provides a good resource for kids, and gives parents the opportunity to speak with their children about issues of real interest." The original price was $14.95. *****NOW $6.00*****

8. OUR FATHER'S WORLD - GOD'S CREATION SERIES - grade 1 by David K. Arwine & Michael J. McHugh - Christian Liberty Press - Copyright 2006 - 103 pages. This soft cover book is new and has some very minor scratches on the glossy cover. There is a very minor crease on the bottom outer corner of the back cover. You can also purchase a teacher's manual & test packet from Christian Liberty Press. "This science text covers such topics as plants, insects, animals, creation science, and basic health. Each topic is presented with full-color illustrations, hands-on activities, vocabulary drills, and comprehension questions. The book sells for $9.45. *****NOW $3.00*****

9. YANKEE DOODLE: A REVOLUTIONARY TAIL - K-3 by Gary Chalk - DK Publishers - Copyright 1997 - 32 pages. This hardback book is new and has never been opened. There is a small tear at the top corner of the dust jacket. "Chalk animates the action of the Revolutionary War with mice and other animals a la Wallace Tripp. He begins with an overview of both the original song and an account of America's bid for independence. The music and the lyrics follow, and the next pages of this self-proclaimed nursery version of the song are filled with historical information and interesting asides. The detailed costumes are accurate throughout. The rhyming verses are set off in script, making it easy to read straight through to picture-book audiences. Closer scrutiny of the smaller type by older readers, however, will bring forth lesser-known points of trivia. The Frenchmen are depicted as frogs, the Germans as pigs, the Native Americans as raccoons, and the colonists, by and large, as an assortment of rodents. The lighthearted cartoons make this a pleasing and fun introduction to a weighty subject." *****NOW $6.00*****
