Subject:         Frustration with Sellers who change their minds
Date: August 3, 2010 at 6:13 am PST

In all my years of buying and selling on Vegsource, I have had very, very few problems, but in the last couple of days I have had two very frustrating experiences. The first problem was with a seller I had agreed to buy a book from. She was going to go and have it weighed at the PO, mail it (her choice to do it before payment), then get back to me with the complete price so I could send her the payment. The next email I received said that she could not sell it at this time after all. When I pressed for an explanation, she told me that another family they knew were starting to homeschool, and the item would be given to that family.
The second problem was with a seller I had emailed to ask some questions about her item. I expressed my interest and sent my mailing address She got back to me, offering a new price for my consideration, as she was adding in some accessories to the curriculum.
I emailed, agreeing to the new price and items, and then to my dismay she told me that someone had emailed her before me, and did want the item and she "had to sell it to them". She said she was not aware that this person wanted the added accessories as well as the book, but even if they only wanted the book, how could she sell it to both of us? I am waiting for a better explanation from her. When I agree to sell an item to someone, I have given my word, and even if I regret that agreement, I feel obligated to honor my word. If I offer an item to someone at a certain price, asking them if that is agreeable, I have given my word to sell the item to them if they agree to my terms. To me, these are simple matters of being ethical and standing by one's word, which I have found over the years to be honored on the Vegsource boards with very rare exceptions. This is not the sort of thing for which I feel I should name them here, but is very frustrating!! Am I the only one having these experiences lately?
