Did you have any sort of confirmation on the box? Is it possible to get back to the post office that originally sent out the package to see if the box was ever weighed? If it was weighed on their end and the weight is obviously not what the books should have weighed then you may be able to use that information in getting Paypal to re-open the case. Yes, insurance is a must these days and it is worth the extra $2 or so because you are more protected. I am so sorry you have had to deal with this.
