Was insurance even discussed? Media mail is handled very roughly. Even if you shipped a box very well taped, it could get damaged. That is why insurance is offered by the post office and should be discussed as part of the deal. If it wasn't, I would refund the money for the books that were lost. If you offered to purchase insurance for the buyer but they declined to pay extra for insurance, then the loss would be the buyers. That is my opinion. I hope you and the buyer come to an agreement.
