Subject:	post office lost package, buyer wants money back but did not get package insured now what?

I received a letter from the post office stating that a package that I sent was found torn open and the contents missing.
Package was sent securely in a brand new bubble mailer and taped all around with packaging tape. I always send my packages with delivery confirmation. Buyer did not request insurance. Post office said if they found package they would let me know. Buyer now wants me to give her a refund. I do not feel like this is my responsibility. What do you think? I know on a popular auction site that I use if you do not have insurance on your package that is your loss. Any thoughts? Thanks.
