| Subject: | Homeschooling in Grafenwoehr- maybe? |

Hello!
My husband has been stationed in Graf for a year, and our son will be starting Kindergarten in the fall. We've discussed it between ourselves and with him, and we feel that homeschooling is the best option for us while we're in Germany, and I'm looking into it now so we can have everything in order and aren't running around in the fall trying to get everything in order. My husband's squad leader already has threatened him that he'll call the police on us for not having him in school yet (our son just turned 5 last November, he wasn't old enough to start school in the fall, but that gives you some idea of the kind of leadership we're dealing with here!) so we want to have all our i's dotted and our t's crossed.
I've found the form 610 that I need to email along with our orders and amendments, but I'm still a bit confused. Perhaps someone can help me?
First, is there a certain curriculum I need to choose? And do I have to get that approved by the DoD schools? Also, after we're out of this base, we'll be done with the army, and living with my parents in California. When we're there (in 2 or 3 years) I plan to enroll him in school, most likely private but the public school in their area is supposed to be great. Should I be following CA laws to transition it better? And finally, does someone monitor progress, I don't know- like a final exam or something I need to send (for Kindergarten, I know, ha ha).
I know these sound like dumb questions, but the way all the information sounds that I have so far is- you send the forms in, and that's it as far as the Military is concerned. Which is fine, I don't need someone to hold my hand (except to start, apparently!) but it seems like there may be risks when we're back in the states?
Also, the DoD site is really confusing talking about limits of $8000 for curriculum, and mile reimbursement, except when there is a school or something like that. The reimbursement for any curriculum you buy is only if there are no DoDDS-E schools in your area, correct?
My head hurts, thanks to anyone willing to read through this and lend me any wisdom they might have!
