If this is the first sign of "symptoms" in a long time, he may just
have been affected by the weather. I run better in cold, others are
opposite. If there's been a medical diagnoses of induced asthma,
then get a VO2 max test done. Doctors should know how to get
one done. If it's been a self diagnoses, meaning it hasn't been
documented in a medical record, then it doesn't exist. Ten years
ago, I got a VO2 test and a weight waiver to come in. I lost
weight, trained, and it turned out my "asthma" was because I was
just too big. It can be done.
