We've home-educated for 18 years (6 kids) on one blue-collar income. We bought a non-consumable math program for our first daughter (which the publisher has changed so it's no longer non-consumable). We don't use "lesson plans" published by others, for the most part, but rather a Charlotte Mason plan of reading living books and narrating from them. The only cost is the living book. I've bought many online or at library sales. Project Gutenberg and other sites have classics available free to print. Those are some of the ways I've cut costs... Need to go, but I can share more if we get a discussion going. :) Thankfully, Colleen M.
