Implementing Charlotte's ideas at an older age....?

Hi,
I am planning on using Charlotte Mason's methods for this upcoming school year, I really like her philosophy on education. I have been reading the Charlotte Mason Companion. I'm wondering what has been your experience with implementing her ideas when your child has been in a more traditional/eclectic school setting? I have two girls--ages 8 and 12.Thanks!
