Ok, let's get this figured out. I'm not here to defend Akin; I'm here to spread information about biology. Seriously. I'm sorry I got snarky for two reasons. It's not kind and it's not useful. Please accept my apology. I looked back at the posts and I'm still comprehending the same thing. Below is my thought process. Please correct me where you see my error.
I understood you and PasadenaDana to believe that Akin's claim that a woman's body can shut down or delay ovulation to be wrong/crappy science/ridiculous/offensive. I told you about the real science and you "uh huh, right"ed me.
PasadenaDana said: I for one was just flabbergasted by the "a raped woman cannot get pregnant" statement. It was the nail in the casket for the Rep's as far as I am concerned.
You said: That claim really blows me away. I actually had to have an ovulation discussion with an older man (and I'm now 52!). Can you imagine believing such a crazy thing? And, that does not just fall on Akin - he has now been supported by several others publicly.
The above two statements led me to believe that you and PasadenaDana do not believe that a woman's body can stop or delay ovulation.
I posted information to inform that delayed ovulation is a biological fact.
(I think it's also important to note that I don't claim that a woman *can't* get pregnant from rape. Sometimes there is no trauma (rohypnol) and sometimes a woman has already ovulated before the rape. And, sometimes, a woman's body won't shut down, even from the trauma and she will ovulate.)
Do you still think that it is outrageous for someone to claim that a woman's body can stop or delay ovulation in times of stress or trauma? Or did you not think that at all and I just misinterpreted?
Thanks.
