Hopefully many will join us in our reunion.
Here's the initial ice-braking question:
Homeschooling: Knowing what you know now, what would you do differently if you had a do-over?
My only change might be in some of the curriculum choices. Although we always ended up with all we needed and then some, there were some choices were not the best fit for us. I remember a history set I ordered which ended up looking like a CIA redaction had taken place after I marked it up for accuracy. They played with history and rewrote it to the point that I wondered what country they were trying to teach. I never ordered from them again although it did teach my daughter a valuable lesson in fact-checking and that we should not believe everything that is published. That year took an unintended but useful detour on how to vet materials.
In the end, we loved Teaching Textbooks for Algebra which were still new at the time. Literary Lessons from the Lord of the Rings was also a favorite. We split it into two years, one semester each, and then added a Shakespearean semester. That split made both years of English enjoyable - well, for my daughter at least, who loves and spent her allowance on Shakespeare. Personally, it comes in handy when I need a nap. LOL
We really enjoyed the flexibility, taking our vacations when others were in school or shifting hours/days as needed.
Oh, I didn't answer the question asked, did I? Let's change the question to: What did you like about homeschooling? We'll get to that other question later. Haha (How about just say whatever you want??)
