"...it's essentially meaningless without data on other things as well. In other words, it's only meaningful to study income relative to living expenses. If income goes up, but living expenses grow at an equal or greater rate then that "growth" really wasn't significant. It may just mean the dollar is worth less."

Actually, the income in itself is very important, even without the additional info you mention. The chart only looks at income, yes, but what it shows is quite telling.

Under Democratic presidents, all levels of the society have fared better financially, and on a nearly even basis. Under Republican presidents, all levels have done far less well, except the highest income level, which only came close to doing as well as they did under Democratic presidents, with markedly less improvement for each step down the monetary ladder.

It certainly indicates that the Democrats have had a more fair effect, overall, and clearly puts the lie to the Republican claim that Democrats are the ones taking from the rich to give to the poor. Even the rich did better under the Dems. The Republicans clearly have done far less to increase income for the poor and middle class.

BTW - it's not based on opinion or conjecture, but on consistent records, so the results are not biased either way.

No matter the living expenses, or the value of the dollar, if you have far less income, you suffer more when those things are taken into consideration, and likewise, if you have more income, you suffer less when the stresses are brought to bear. Under Dems, that suffering is not overburdened on anyone. Under Reps, the less than rich suffer considerably more, with the poor suffering the most.
