Who watched the State of the Union address? Thoughts? Here are mine. I hope that yahoos who care more about political games than the United States will be exposed! It's time to work in the best benefit of the country rather than continuing to divide us with lies & innuendo.

The State of the Union Address is rated a 10 by me! I took notes (told you, it's my sport of choice. LOL). Here are the highlights from my point of view:

We have recovered most of the money given to Banks. Obama suggested that we use that now to invest in small community banks. MERCHANT & PLANTERS -- GO FOR IT! :)

Taxes have been cut for 95% of Americans. Income Taxes have not been raised. COBRA costs were lowered, unemployment benefits extended. All good.

The Stimulus has worked. I love seeing the signs on the way to Corinth that attribute the road work to the Stimulus Bill. I would like to see the same signs on Hwy 57 and Hwy 125, especially when it rains and we have to dodge water-filled trenches! Gee, thanks, Ms. Blackburn! Why can't Hardeman County get some road work done?

Clean Energy is the future. Who cares if you do or don't believe in global warming even though right here we go from temps of 60 to single digits within a week. That never used to happen. When I was a kid, we actually had winter. We don't now. Anyway, clean energy saves in many areas. I would like to look into windmills or solar panels for households. They are expensive but with the proper incentives and cheaper heating/cooling bills, it might be worthwhile!

Education = anti-poverty! Exactly. Let's invest in our children and their education.

CBO reports say that the health care reform WILL bring down the deficit. That's an indisputable fact. Will it do it overnight? No. The plan won't go into effect overnight either. I wish it could. Too many people are in need of health care. Too many are an appendectomy away from bankruptcy and too many are putting off care until it's too late. We need reform. We spend over $7,000 per person per year on health care - that's enormously higher than any other country. Yet our health and life expectancy is not number one among the countries. Our own premiums have tripled or more over the years, out of pocket expenses are outrageous, seemingly what the entire bill should be actually. Coverage has dwindled. While the CEOs get bonuses in the millions, we get less coverage. The insurance corporations need regulation.

Loved, loved, loved his history lesson on the deficit! In 2000, there was a surplus. After two wars, tax cuts for the rich, and Plan D which were NOT paid for (plus additional unpaid expenditures), Obama came into office with a recession & a deficit. That's not "blaming" -- just stating facts. It must be dealt with. Getting out of the recession with the Stimulus Bill was necessary and has helped. The Stimulus needed to be bigger in my opinion. Get everyone back to work and then deal with the deficit. It won't be ignored as it was for 8 long long long long years.

In 2011, a freeze on spending other than military, medicare, and medicaid. Restore PAYGO. Can anyone explain why the Reps are against PAYGO? I've never figured that one out.

I loved how he called out the Supreme Court on their recent outrageous decision that will splatter even more outlandish commercials on us! Even overseas money can enter into our elections! What will the price of our products be when the corporations spend additional millions or billions to have more of a say-so in our election process? Right now, they have PLENTY of say-so, even too much imo. Scalia didn't like it --- too bad, make bad decisions and people may talk.

Publish all earmarks online! Great idea! That way, when a politician speaks against earmarks, yet creates them, it will be exposed. Earmarks were supposedly one of McCain's pet peeves but he was one of the biggest benefactors of earmarks! Lobbyists should also disclose meetings & donations. Well, duh! That should have always been the case! Our Tennessee Representatives don't represent US -- they represent whatever entity is giving them money so we should know that.

Out of Iraq by August! I hope this is true. I know we will have to have some support system left for them but it is time to get out of there militarily. Thank Goodness!! This administration has had the largest increase for vets in decades. I couldn't stand it when, during the Bush years, the military didn't have what they needed either overseas or back home. Every time they voted against veteran care, I couldn't believe it!

U.S. & Russia in nuclear (noo-clear) agreements talks that will continue.

Loved the way he called out the babyish actions of both parties. Just Saying No should be the Reps bumper sticker right now and Oh My Goodness We Don't Have 60 Votes Even Though They Only Needed 51 should be the Dems. None of us would be able to act as they do at our own jobs, would we? Why do we support them for acting this way? It isn't in the best interest of the country. Those who helped create the mess should Grab A Mop, a bumper sticker I actually have in my collection! LOL

This statement, "America must always stand on the side of freedom and human dignity", is so true! And, also, We Don't Quit!

If you have read this far, you must like politics as well or at least keep up with it. So, did you watch the State of the Union Address? What were your thoughts?

My keyboard is moving a tad slower than my fingers so please excuse typos!
