In April of this year, Fox "news" refused to carry Obama's Press Conference....so why are they bellyaching over not being included by them?
This is the first time a major broadcast outlet refused to carry a news conference of President Obama’s. Fox Broadcasting like other media outlets, operate under government licenses. When the President of the United States requests air time broadcast outlets comply.
One thing you can bank on: hypocrisy!
The Obama administration's recent characterization of Fox News is a long overdue acknowledgment of the obvious: Fox News is not a legitimate news organization -- indeed, after many years of serving as the research and messaging wing of the Republican Party, it has now gone beyond even that, to become the electronic evangelist of an ultra-partisan and non-reality-based world view.
Historically speaking, White House criticism of the media has often been unseemly and defensive, with the president's ire generally provoked by journalists who excel at their work -- by asking cheeky questions, exposing important things that the president would prefer be kept secret, holding the powerful accountable and playing host to a vibrant and informed exchange of a wide range of political opinions.
But in this case, the critique is something else entirely. The litmus test is that the Obama White House is not upset at news gatherers for doing their job. What Obama and his aides are correctly pointing out is that the people working at Fox News are doing another job altogether.

Why Journalists Shouldn't Be Defending Fox News

You know, I can’t say I think it appropriate to directly try and ace Fox out this way - though I think it’s fine that Obama declines to appear on Fox News Sunday - but once again, this is the media sticking up for its brethren… not quite understanding that Fox would never, under any circumstances, do the same for them.
Did Fox go to bat for the New York Times when the Bush administration was talking about prosecuting the Times for running stories on the NSA wiretapping? No? Gee, I wonder why that was…
And didn’t Fox just run print ads ripping the rest of the media for “missing the story” of the Fox News-promoted tea parties?
The rest of the media doesn’t understand that Fox is as intent on taking down its “sister organizations” as it is the White House. But this just shows you how stupid, collectively, the media is.
You want to cut my throat? Here, take this knife!
Ah, but maybe Fox will return the favor next time we have a Republican in the White Hous
Fox CryBabies
While this could be seen as a display of solidarity from the other networks, a D.C. network insider tells TVNewser the news divisions were not necessarily taking a stand and siding with Fox when they refused the interviews, but that it was more of a financial decision.
The pool is paid for by and rotates between ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox, and NBC, allowing each network to do quick interviews using the same camera crew. If the White House were to exclude one of the members, the other networks would have to provide their own crew for the interview.
There are financial and contractual arrangements and obligations between the networks when the pool is involved that would override any opinion the networks and bureau chiefs might have with the White House's position on Fox. Under that official arrangement, everyone has to be treated equally.
Of course, there are plenty of newsers and critics who have expressed discomfort with the White House getting involved in media criticism and singling out one organization.
You can see FNC's reporting on the issue from last night's "Special Report" after the jump...
It was a Financial Decision
