I'd like some feedback -- I realize that virtual charter schools are legally a public school - funded by tax dollars. However, I've always considered them a homeschool option, as your child IS being educated at home. In our state (SC) there has been much animosity towards VCS - in fact we were kicked out of our "support" group after we enrolled my younger son in a VCS (he'd always attended our local public school), even though his older brother continued to be homeschooled in the more tradional manner as he had for the past 10 years. I didn't understand why they wouldn't allow a family enrolled in VCS to enjoy the fellowship and activities of other families who choose to education their children at home - PLUS we still had a child at home who was "homeschooled" by THEIR definition. They made a ruling that to continue in their group no child in the family could be enrolled in a VCS due to the fact that they were inherently dangerous to the homeschool movement. I don't get it - seems like just another option for those who want to have more effect on their children's education -- grassroots homeschooling, unschooling, video classes, co-ops, etc. just seem like one of the many choices we have in directing our children's education. What is going on in other states. BTW...we found the VCS to be a perfect fit. My son works at his own pace, and on his own schedule - his teachers are always available for him - though obviously we can't choose his curriculum, we found it to be engaging and the teachers open to what we had to say and always deferred back to us in that I knew my son better than they did. I'm just wondering whats going on?! Thanks for the feedback.
