circles and I managed to hear a full report on this on 4/24 when I was out driving. It was the NPR interview of General Eaton. When I'm out in the evenings, I often listen to NPR. I usually just glance at the headlines of the NY Times that comes to my email, so I missed the story there.

I also find it interesting that Media Matters was careful to close their search on May 1 and for narrowly prescribed search terms. I found an AP wire on this subject on the Fox website from May 2. Don't know whether the other majors have chosen to cover it yet.

I don't think it's all that shocking that retired military tend to support the military nor am I particularly troubled that they were granted access to high up sources. I am troubled that if they didn't toe the line, they may have been dropped from the access list--this smacks of how CNN operated for years in Iraq during Saddam and it shouldn't be tolerated in news or government. That said, government can and does decide all the time to talk to and how freely and I'm not surprised that they chose to talk to generals friendly to their positions. We've seen a similar display by the Dems in using generals for their own purposes, though that relationship usually is a bit more transparent than this apparently was.

I do think if the retired generals had ties to defense contractors, this should have been disclosed at the beginning of every segment on NPR and elsewhere before they were interviewed.

Blessings, Holly
