We have a relative, who disappeared decades ago and was never found. She was nabbed (we assume) sometime while going to a job interview, of all things. There has never been a resolution -- maybe an unsolved crime. It's been one of those painful family events that no one likes to remember at gatherings, as you can imagine.

Regardless of how we think women are respected in this country, there are benchmarks that haven't been met. And rights/respect for women, as well as children, seem to be inexplicably linked - no surprise to those who are mothers.
