The short version is a woman called CPS to report another woman carrying a small child as she struck another small child (3 or 4 years old, she said) in a parking lot. The caller followed the woman to get her license number and the make and color of her car.
Well, the license number she called in didn't match the color or make of the car she reported. And the owners could easily prove they were hundreds of miles away for all of the that day with both of their children... a 9 year old and a 12 year old.
The parents explained all that to CPS several times. CPS still wanted to interview the dc to "close" the case. The parents said, not without a lawyer. So CPS waited to get the children at school, telling the the school not to call the parents.
Either, CPS is simply power tripping, or this is another of those laws that make so much sense on paper and so little sense when applied.
