In the 80s and early 90s, corporate mindframe was to bring in as much work as possible rather than purchasing it outside. Today, the idea is to outsource or purchase elsewhere anything that can be sent out.

We've lost not only jobs but product quality and environmental quality as well. At a Christmas party a couple of years ago (my husband still works where I did work so I get to still go to the Christmas parties), I asked an old co-worker who had just returned from China about the working conditions and environmental concerns and he said, "they are killing themselves but we're saving money." Since (a) it was a Christmas party and (b) my husband needs his job, I stopped the conversation there rather than asking the 1,000 questions that statement brought to mind!

He spoke about the cloud of pollution over the city as if it only affected them but it does have an effect worldwide, of course. And, the quality of goods is rotten! To save a few pennies but have the product fail is not saving at all.

And, when they call me and ask, I'll tell them!
LOL
