to your contention that schools are melting pots of philosophy. The Ohio Board of Education wouldn't consider this http://www.ohioscience.org/Controversial_Issues0906.pdf because was proposed by a board member that cited global warming and evolution as two area in which scientists disagree in an earlier framework for discussing controversial issues proposal. That was simplifying it, actually that board member was one of a few who tried to get a reference to Intelligent Design added to the curriculum earlier, so the rest of the board saw the earlier proposal as an attempt to allow students to bring up the posibility of Intelligent Design in the classrooms). I think it is hard to see the connection just reading the draft of the proposal, but the comments of other board members to the media are telling... A board member told the Akron Beacon Journal that the framework 'is a lot of gobbledygook -- it's just another wedge into the teaching of ID in science classes.', The Columbus Dispatch reported "Privately, several board members say they support an immediate vote so debate can end. The proposals, they say, are unnecessary and divisive and draw attention from more important topics." It is not just evolution, although that is one of the easier ones to see.
