Pioneer Day Celebration
Kingdom Academy of the Arts
Friday, September 24, 2010

Join us in September for a fantastic Pioneer Celebration. Students may come dressed in pioneer clothing, and they will participate in all the activities as though they were pioneers. Everything is hands-on fun!!! The pioneer event will begin with a devotion and story telling time and end with a ride in a covered wagon.

Below is a list of some of the activities that will be available during the course of the day. Participants enjoy all this and more.

„X Apple Cider: students will press their own glass of cider on an old-fashioned cider press.
„X Whittling: students will select a wood carving project.
„X Corn Sheller: shell corn on an antique corn sheller and feed the chickens.
„X Corn Husk Dolls: create your own version of a pioneer doll.
„X Candle-Dipping: dip taper candles over an open fire.
„X Wood Chopping: chop and gather the firewood from the woods.
„X Open Hearth Cooking: sample pioneer recipes.
„X Soap Carving: a great carving project for the very youngest to the very eldest.
„X Quilting: students will make their own quilted pillow.
„X Building Project: Wood construction.
„X Wash Board: wash clothes on a washboard with homemade soap.
„X Fishing: make your own pole and catch your lunch!
„X Farm Chores: feed and care for the animals.
„X Homemade Ice Cream: hand-cranked, the old fashioned way.
„X Wood Burning: use the sun and a magnifying glass.
„X Braided Rugs: try your hand at braiding a pioneer rug.
„X Stone Masonry: learn how to lay up a stone chimney.
„X Weave: weave on a cardboard or table loom.
„X Spin: using the wool sheared at the spring camp, learn to spin on your own drop spindle.

Many other stations not listed are also set up for your pleasure. The list depends on the season and availability of the craftsmen. Some of the possibilities in the past have been a blacksmith, a carpenter, basket weaver, spinner, leather craftsman, fisherman, quilter, and more.

The Pioneer Day Celebration will take place at the home of the Tuggle Family.

1705 Kingdom Road, Bell Buckle, TN 37020
