Boward Christian Homeschoolers (BCH) is very please to announce both Fort Lauderdale Mayor James Naugle and Hollywood Mayor Peter Bober are officially recognizing homeschooling families in their two cities!

On February 2, 2009, Hollywood Mayor Peter Bober issued a Congratulatory Letter in recognition of the homeschooling families of Hollywood, which is available on-line at www.browardchristianhomeschoolers.org/mayorkboberletter.pdf.

Also, the office of Fort Lauderdale Mayor James Naugle has reported Mayor Naugle will issue an official Proclamation in recognition of homeschoolers on February 17, 2009, during the Fort Lauderdale City Council Meeting, which will proclaim February 22-28, 2009 as Homeschool Week in Fort Lauderdale. Additionally, long-time home school advocate, John Kernohan, will be addressing the City Commissioners.

According to John Kernohan, "It is such an honor in having the opportunity to approach the Mayors of Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale with the request for them to recognize the homeschooling families in their cities. I have been blessed to know, support and build friendships with so many of these families during our household’s 17 year home education experience. These two historic events are not the results of any single individual or group’s efforts, but rather are because of Mayor Naugle’s and Mayor Bober’s awareness of the homeschooling families in their areas, which is due to the achievements of these families and their dedication to both their children and our community."

Additionally, the office of Broward County Mayor Stacy Ritter has communicated with John Kernohan about a possible county-wide recognition of homeschoolers.

Kernohan goes on to say, "With over 2800 homeschool students currently registered in Broward County this school year, no single group or organization represents all homeschool families in our area. As a united front, ALL homeschoolers are collectively the strongest voice for home education in Florida."

Also, various events and special promotions have been organized for homeschool families in celebration of Homeschool Week in Ft. Lauderdale.
