If they have a newsletter or monthly meetings you could attend you could ask around. I am sure there are people who could donate stuff to you that they no longer need or use. Also your local library should have used book sales occassionally and you could purchase ex-library books really cheap. And at the end of the school year public schools throw away so many textbooks that you could ask your local school board if you could have a few.
