I could have cried at the huge home school fair I just attended. Out of hundreds of booths, I was sure that I would find a publisher or someone who has a science curriculum for 3-6th graders that would cover motion, tools, structures, etc. A publisher's rep actually told me that grade school children cannot understand the very things we plan on teaching this next year- tools, motion, structure strength, basic building and innovation hands-on learning. I found tons of science books, and not one that was about 'their world;, the visible, workable, constructable, testable, relatable world of pounding and twisting and launching and falling and innovating.

We are NOT looking for uber-technical lessons to do with atoms and electrons and molecules and lots of things they can't touch and "do" with. We ARE looking for a chance to have these students use their legos, k'nex, paper towel rolls, and rubber bands and such to build and experiment. We want them to ask why you can't just knock out any wall when you remodel, or why a spud gun needs an aerosol, or why you have to build a camp fire/wall/car tire/etc. a certain way. Real life things, the kinds of things people make tons of tv shows about and kids buy toys to mimic but publishers tell me grade schoolers "aren't able to comprehend yet".

I have Kaleidoscope Kids; Bridges! book. A nice first step, but I would really like to find more topics. Hoping you all can help.
