We loved this. We did it when Ds & DD were 7th & 4th.
We actually started Egypt at the end of 6th & 3rd and then picked up with it in the fall. However the Mommy doubt's caught up with me and by March, I was afraid maybe we needed to be doing more and I veered away. I wish we had stayed with it.
I loved it so much I kept adding things to it and could have spread it over 2-3 years If I had wanted to. When we studied Egypt I expanded learning deserts to learning all the deserts of the world, by name and desert plants and desert animals, that led to different plant types and animal classification. It also led to geography, different people, that led to different religions. It just seemed that the more I used this curriculum the more freedom I saw in branching out and learning different things. This slowed us down in getting through the curriclum, but we really learned.
I have considered finding a used set and using it to create an awsome summer camp for kids 9-12 yrs.
Those kiddos would learn so much.
Check it out.
I think my only down fall with it was that as I read the teachers notes out loud my kids didn't have anything to look off of and I wonder if they retained as much as I did. Also when doing read alouds I really think it is important for the kids to have their own book to follow along, when possible.
