I have been homeschooling my 3 kids (13, 9, & 8) finishing our second year. I also looked into Sonlight and found it overwhelming and confusing. When I asked a Sonlight rep at a conference she became flustered trying to explain it to me. We have used MFW the whole time because I was very anxious about homeschooling and wanted something very easy and fast (no set-up time for me) to implement. MFW has been great. The manual has the entire year for grade levels 2-8 laid out - day-by-day. It has which books, what pages to read, scripts with additional things to say, supplies needed (mostly household items) and encompassed every subject. It is History (mostly thru missionaries) based with real books supplementing. My understanding of Sonlight it is real books/literature based with other subjects being covered thru the books. I've been very please with MFW - it has made the journey so pleasant for me and the kids. They do get bored with some of it but it's really how much you put into it - they do have alot of project and hands on ideas. And it's been much better than them and me being overwhelmed and frustrated with school.
