My dd is 16. She has a lot of great plans for the future, and I want to see what you think are good "living skills" I need to make sure shed picks up. These are the ones we are covering the next couple of years. What am I missing?
1. Driving a car. Taking other transportation.
2. Hemming and basic hand sewing repairs. (Don't own a sewing machine)
3. How to do laundry and other basic house hold chores.
4. How to plan out, shop for and prepare a good economical, vegetarian weekly menu, how to make lunches, etc. Nutrition and safety factors, reading labels.
5. How to deal with various merchants, health care providers, others on the phone and in person (This is one that she is shy about - are your kids?)
6. How to do basic banking, pay bills, credit stuff. Shop for insurance and investment stuff.
8. How to get an apartment.
9. Dealing with negative experiences with merchants, restaurants, etc. Letters to document same.
10. How to "choose her people and places". Safety habits. (For example, if you see a lot of loitering men in a store's parking lot, pass the store by.)
11. Laws that apply to adults.
I can't teach her too much about cars since I don't really know too much (thank God for the service station around the corner!). Well, your thoughts are welcome.
