Subject:         Homeschooling a senior in MS/advice sought

Hi,

I'm returning to homeschooling after years off. I used to frequent this board so much and I'm thrilled that it's still here! My Junior in HS already has 24 credits and lacks only 3 classes usually required for college. It's a waste to send him back. He doesn't care to grad from high school (officially) He asked for a mission trip instead of a graduation party - that gives you an idea of his perspective. Here's my dilemma - We are in MS - easy state to homeschool in. We've been discussing this w/a friend who's a director of our comm. college where Drew would go so we know our options. He's going to be 18 in July and could just go take his GED and be done. OR, we could homeschool him as a senior and just give him 4th yr english, gov't, and econ - all that's needed for him to officially graduate as a homeschooler and be accepted into the comm. college where he will be going in a year (we wanted him to take some time off to intern w/our missions pastor and travel). I was leaning toward the GED option until the school said we'd have to classify him as a dropout - not sure how I feel about that - not sure if I care. But I don't want him in school full-time b/c he will be taking at least three large mission trips in the fall and winter. I thought I could just get the three courses in computer form and he could take them and be done with it. What advice do any of you have for me? I'll take it all! thanks for your time and help, karen
