I am considering whether I want to use Mystery of History this year with my 5th grader. We have used Abeka & Bob Jones in the past and wanted to try something different this year. I have been looking into Mystery of History and Story of the World. Have you used either one of these? If so, what do you like about them the most? Did you find the information "meaty" enough,or did you have to search and ass to the lesson? What age child did you use this with?
Mystery of History sounds great from the online info. but I am a bit concerned based upon the following preview I found on Mystery of History. Of course, I realize we all view curriculum differently. That being said, I just want to here what your experience has been.
Thanks so much!!

Our family is very disappointed with this curriculum. As a history major, this subject is the one I am most passionate about for my children. Having shared so much about history in general conversation and daily life, my children said how boring this curriculum was because they were not learning anything new even at their young ages. I was disappointed that it was nothing more than a "textbook" with a very shallow and sometimes inaccurate approach to history. Even with doing the complete program, it is still not a fun hands-on approach to history. As a very conservative Christian family, we were also very disappointed to find this Christian text recommending studying Greek gods and goddesses by name, building a temple of idolatry (a ziggurrat) and displaying pictures of idols. We are used to this and usually black out or cut out these things in secular texts. However, we were surprised to find it in a Christian textbook. As another review put it, we are back to creating our own history, something along the lines of "History Pockets" with our own added depth and detail."
