I live in Illinois as well. Here we are considered private schools, and issue our own high school diplomas. You can purchase one or even create your own on the computer. They're usually considered more of a keepsake than anything else, though. The transcript is the more important part of graduation. As for getting a job, I've never heard of someone asking to actually see a high school diploma, but as long as your child has truly done the work and you've graduated him he would obviously be able to say yes, I'm a high school graduate. With the diploma issued by you, he could say yes, I have a high school diploma. As for accreditation, homeschooling is way too familiar anymore for that to be an issue with a college. Most of them have links on their sites dedicated to the entrance requirements of homeschoolers. I can't conceive of a job that would care whether an 18 yo went to an accredited school...if the job is that important, he probably needs more education after high school anyway.
