Hello there, I am a new homeschooling mom...my son is a senior this year and has been a music major at his high school until now. The district is saying that about two weeks ago, they decided that no homeschoolers can participate in band and this decision is made on the district level. I brought up the Craig Dickinson Act statute and was told that sometimes the district decisions can trump the state laws. (??!!??) This seems ridiculous to me, and actually I thought this was illegal. We are in Collier County, FL. Does anyone have experience with this kind of situation? Also, can anyone recommend an attorney in Florida who might be familiar with this kind of thing? Any input is so appreciated. I know I am new here. It has been a nightmare trying to get straight answers from this district, I have felt almost as if they are punishing my son for withdrawing from school. I have gotten mucho attitude from everyone I have dealt with at the school level. I don't care about this, but I do feel my son has the right to be supported in his future career (music) by this district. Sorry for the probably unusually long post. Thanks for reading and any input. Peace! Amber
